Another bear radio-collared in the Prealpine zone

After our previous bear capture for research and management purpose in the Prealpine hills of Slovenia, another alarm message set us into alert two days ago. The capture team, together will a full support of local hunting club Krekovše, went to the location immediately. A younger male was trapped inside the Culvert trap. The capture team successfully narcotised and measured it, took its genetic samples and fitted it with a radio-telemetry collar.
GPS and other sensors in the
telemetry collar will register data about bear’s location and activity, which
will allow us to track its movement, calculate its home range and get insight
into bear’s activity in different seasons.
We are eager to know, if the bear’s
(nicknamed “Rok” after a local hunter, who helped with the capture) movement
somehow differs from the activity of those bears that are living in the core
area in south Slovenia.
